Hope you got a chance to browse through our last post which showed red flags in college applications.

Today’s post offers tips on how social networking sites can be useful for job seekers.

My first tip – I would like to introduce twitter as a tool for job hunting. We need to be innovative in finding a job in tough times. Twitter is a new source for recruitment and job search.

Going ahead with Twitter:

  • Use a professional pick for your profile picture so that employers will get a good impression.
  • You can create professional backgrounds on twitter by clicking here
  • Display right information on twitter. Promote yourself to the fullest.
  • Be updated on latest company news. You can use the news that companies publish on twitter as reference in your interview.
  • Follow Top MBA employers, 100 best companies list and many more. You will find a lot out of it. Search for employers/people on twitter instead of jobs.
  • Engage in conversations with recruiters or re-tweet comments.
  • Be Proactive

My second tip of the day -Third tip of the day -

Attending a conference by your requirement can be overwhelming. They provide a lot of information which may not be of direct use. Conferences provide opportunities to meet multiple people at one time under one roof. Plan your date, time and location of the conference in advance. Update your resumes before the conference. Be ready for networking. Networking can be done informally and formally. Be prepared for mock interviews as well. Gather information on which companies and people are attending the conference. Plan your agenda accordingly. Practice an elevator speech to present yourself confidently.

My fourth tip is making use of twitter as an advanced search engine. Try to use more twitter so that you will know its features more. It takes some time to get a hang of them. But once you know its power, you are the king.

Fifth tip – According to a survey LinkedIn has over thirty-five million members in over 140 countries. Use LinkedIn to find colleagues, friends and relatives where they are currently working. Try to establish contacts with recruiters. Post on your profile you are in search of job( you may not be currently looking for one) but as job hunting takes few time you are posting it right now. Getting recommendations from your colleagues is very helpful in getting you job. Find out the exact job requirements. What the company is expecting from that particular profile in which you are interested in? Start building your networks before you actually require them.
